The city becomes part of the classroom
The 3iS Bordeaux Creative Week is a short, intensive introduction to film-making through practice.
Over five days, you will move between workshops on campus, collaborative production and creative exploration of Bordeaux.
You will learn in the studios and production spaces of 3iS, then head into the city to observe, film, record sound, meet people and gather material for your project.
The aim is to leave with first-hand experience of film-making, a completed short film created as part of an international team and a new way of looking at Bordeaux — not simply as a visitor, but as a creator.
See Bordeaux. Find a story. Make a film.
5 days to discover film-making from idea to screen.
During the week, you will experience the main stages of film and audiovisual production: writing, directing, cinematography, sound recording, production and editing. Rather than focusing on a single specialism, you will try different roles and discover how they work together within a film crew.
The challenge: create a short film inspired by Bordeaux.
This English-taught short film course in Bordeaux is designed for students and young adults looking for a first hands-on introduction to film-making in France.
Who is this Film & Audiovisual Creative week for?
This program is ideal if you want to:
contribute to your first short
You will not spend a week simply talking about cinema: you will create it.
From day one, you will write, frame, shoot and record, applying creative and technical concepts directly to your project.
Write. Direct. Shoot. Record. Edit.
Move between different responsibilities to understand how a film crew works together.
Directing, cinematography, sound, production and editing all contribute to the same creative challenge.
The riverfront, streets, architecture, neighbourhoods, cultural venues and people of Bordeaux become potential locations, subjects and sources of inspiration.
You will learn to look at the city like a film-maker — noticing light, movement, faces, sounds and details that can become the starting point for a story.
Everything you do during the week leads towards one shared goal: creating a short film as a team.
The format may take the form of fiction, portrait, mini-documentary or creative audiovisual piece, but each project will offer its own perspective on Bordeaux.
Studios, image and sound equipment, and post-production facilities give you the opportunity to experience the production process in an environment inspired by professional industry practice.
You will be guided by lecturers and professionals from the film and audiovisual industries.
Alongside technical skills, you will discover a professional way of working: preparing a shoot, sharing responsibilities, working within constraints, responding to feedback and bringing a project to completion.
The program may include visits or encounters with local organizations and professionals connected to film, audiovisual production and the creative industries.
These visits are designed to inspire your film and help you understand how creative work is rooted in the city.
The program is taught entirely in English.
Participants bring different cultural references and ways of seeing the city, combining them to develop a shared creative project.
By the end of the week, you will have:
From city to story
Welcome to 3iS Bordeaux and introduction to the campus.
Discover the fundamentals of audiovisual storytelling and take your first steps with camera and sound equipment.
You will explore framing, shot types and mise-en-scène before forming teams and heading into Bordeaux for your first creative observations.

Turn an idea into a shoot
Develop your concept through short-form writing, point of view, shot breakdown and location scouting.
You will prepare the technical requirements of the shoot and assign roles within your team.
A visit or encounter with a local cultural or audiovisual organization or professional may complement the day.
Challenge: pitch your film and prepare the shoot.
The city is your set
A full day dedicated to filming.
Teams work across different locations in Bordeaux and rotate responsibilities in directing, cinematography, sound, production and, where relevant, performance.
Challenge: capture the images and sounds needed to tell your story.
