Learning by Doing

At 3iS, hands-on experience is at the heart of our teaching approach. Throughout the three-year program, students write, produce, and direct a variety of films, working in teams and taking on different roles for each project. This collaborative, practical approach ensures students graduate with real-world experience and a professional portfolio.

1st year – Foundations in filmmaking

  • Documentary portrait – 4 minutes
  • Fiction film – 6 minutes
  • Totems – Four 5-minute fiction films created individually. This is a signature 3iS exercise, designed to push students’ limits at each step. Each film focuses on a specific cinematic challenge, with additional constraints introduced progressively to sharpen technical skills, storytelling, and creative problem-solving. By the end of the sequence, students gain a solid foundation to tackle more complex professional projects.
